O Melanotan II ativa de forma não-seletiva os receptores melanocortina: MC1R nos melanócitos (produção de melanina → bronzeamento), MC4R no hipotálamo (desejo sexual e supressão de apetite), MC3R (metabolismo energético) e MC5R (função exócrina).
