Glicoproteína de 344 aminoácidos — liga e neutraliza miostatina, ativina e FSH Original in PT-BR

A Folistatina 344 se liga com alta afinidade à miostatina (GDF-8), ativinas e outros membros da superfamília TGF-β, impedindo sua ligação aos receptores ActRIIB na superfície celular muscular. Ao neutralizar a miostatina, remove o sinal inibitório para o crescimento muscular. Também suprime FSH ao se ligar à ativina, o que pode afetar a função reprodutiva. Estudos de terapia gênica demonstraram hipertrofia muscular dramática em modelos animais com superexpressão de folistatina. Original in PT-BR
