O Sermorelin estimula o receptor de GHRH na pituitária anterior, exatamente como o GHRH endógeno. Sua meia-vida muito curta (~10 min) significa que produz um pulso agudo de GH que rapidamente retorna ao basal — o padrão mais fisiológico possível. Estudos demonstraram que a administração noturna de Sermorelin melhora a qualidade do sono, especificamente aumentando os estágios 3 e 4 de sono profundo (PMID: 21149851), que coincide com o pico natural de GH noturno.
